Hi,

I have worked in IT for more than 15 years. I started using the free version of LogMeIn in the early 2000 for accessing some computers remotely from time to time. Back then I worked for a company and we had VPNs between sites so I rarely needed to use it.

Around 2011 I went on my own and I kept using LogMeIn (more frequently). At some point LogMeIn removed the free version and since being able to connect to my customers was critical I payed $199-$299. At some point it was increased to $499-$599, then $699-$799 and finally $1,299 1 or 2 years ago (I had 250 computers). This year I got a notification that it would increase to almost $3,500. I think its ridiculous how they keep increasing their prices.

On January 2019 I payed for TeamViewer as well since I wanted to try it out (its much cheaper) in case I ever wanted to drop LogMeIn (looks like subconsciously I knew what was coming).

I already called LogMeIn to cancel (though I can still re-activate).

Im looking into other alternatives. ConnectWise Control (ScreenConnect) and Zoho Assist look nice to have as a backup in case I have issues with TeamViewer.

Whats really important to me is being able to connect to devices (mainly Windows, Mac, Linux) from my computer or phone (which both LogMeIn and TeamViewer did perfectly). Whatever I use MUST have unattended access since I access servers and other headless systems. File transfers is also pretty important.

What is everyone else using? Any recommendations? Should I stick with LogMeIn?

Hi,

I’d say, go for teamviewer. And get the license for the quicksupport one. Create a GPO (if they’re all in the domain) for a link to the quicksupport application, which runs up in 5-10 sec. For WORKGROUP users, i’d get a link to a get.teamviewer website, where they can just run the Teamviewer.exe, which pops up in the webbrowser instantly. You can also add the link to the Teamviewer in your mail signature.

Maybe some other users here has any other recommendations.

In Norway, almost all 3.party companyes use TeamViewer quicksupport client.
Atleast of what I’ve seen.

TeamViewer & Aeroadmin, and some others will be much cheaper and get you the features you need.

TeamViewer wants to be subscription based. Although they can be ‘arm twisted’ for perpetual licenses if you can get clients to standardize on a max version.

I have only recently started to play with Aeroadmin. It is inexpensive and provides the basic features.

I’m happy with Teamviewer and I pass the license cost on to my clients.

I feel your pain on LogMeIn. After many years we dumped them because of the outrageous price increases. We tried several, but settled on Splashtop Premium and their SOS support function. We saved about $5500 a year and have 2x the number of computers. A fellow consultant who helps me out on occasion uses ConnectWise which I like what I see. I don’t see us leaving Splashtop anytime soon. Very happy with the functions and they just reworked their file transfer which has much better speed now.

For me it’s ScreenConnect or bust. By far the best remote tool I’ve used.

We use ScreenConnect as the primary tool, and TeamViewer as a backup. Both work great!

You should take a look at AnyDesk.

It has all you need, is the fastest remote control application (thanks to their unique codec) and is cheaper than TeamViewer.

It comes with an address book and of course unattended remote control after installation and setting a password.

I am using LiteManager. It is very good and it is free for 30 computers.

On a similar note, as we’ll as having unattended access, which of these have start as a system service?

AnyDesk does after installation.

On Windows it’s also possible to switch users remotely during a session.

We moved from LMI to TeamViewer as well. While TeamViewer Business was obviously more expensive than LMI free when it existed, TeamViewer isn’t bad and has pretty much a full feature set.

Hey Gonzalez,

Glad to know you are already taking a look at Zoho Assist, please free to ping me anytime if you’re interested in a personalized demo of the same.

In addition to Assist, you can also take a look at Remote Access Plus that comes with unattended access, available on cloud and premise.

Feel free to DM me if you need any additional clarifications regarding these options.

@manuelgonzalez-it

ScreenConnect is the one. I dont get why companies insist on wanting Yearly payment upfront. Ideally I would like it to be cheaper for an additional user but thats the same for most subscriptions.

Teamviewer is great as long as your willing to pay. I was looking into Anydesk but ended up with Screenconnect and so glad i did.

I use Zoho Assist and have been quite happy with how it works. Cost is very reasonable and it is easy for the end users to navigate the installation process to grant me access to their machine.

I use AVAST Cloudcare as my backup to Teamviewer. Signed up as a reseller (free) and then sold the business the cost of AVG Cloudcare, which has free remote support from inside the Service desk, plus can update and check virus reports too.

If you don’t need all the latest features for Teamviewer can always call them and get an OLD Business License (Teamviewer 12), at a cost of £622.80 (one off payment).
