I use logmein free for remote support and troubleshooting for my clients. They are removing the free version as of 1/28/14 and I am a nervous wreck. Can anyone recommend a low to no cost remote solution?

I loved Logmein because the free version:

  • Can boot into safemode

  • Remote support, can share screen with user

  • Can access machine without client being present which also is helpful

  • I use join.me as well from time to time but not ideal.

Any recommendations on other remote software?

I still have not received any email from them. I only manage about 6 machines.

I have a pro license to get into my Work machine, but the rest are family support. Why do you have to do this to me…

Texkonc - for supporting family/friends you could try screen sharing through Facebook:

I bet other vendors like, for example, RealVNC are having a field day. Is there champagne and dancing going on?

LMI Central is cost effective or take a peek at TeamViewer TeamViewer – The Remote Connectivity Software

If you’re using it for business, shouldn’t you just consider a remote support tool part of the cost of doing business, and budget accordingly?

I don’t understand the uproar about this.

Regards,

Brian in CA

the cost of the support tool was free and THAT is what was being budgeted, though I don’t use this tool I can see the why there is “uproar”

I use a combo of meraki, lync, and join.me (which I’m surprised is still free)

Scott - not exactly.

LMI and VNC are fairly different inherently. Generally speaking, if you want to connect over the internet, use LMI, if you want to connect on network use VNC.

Naturally there are exceptions to the rule (like Desktop).

I don’t imagine there’s going to be a huge amount of cross over really but since there are a lot of people seeking advice right now, I’m happy to provide information on VNC based solutions (if they fit the bill).

LMI Central is cost effective, however with the steady chopping block that LMI has been performing I wonder if there is a limit or removal of Central on the way. I am shocked they have yet to introduce some sort of AD-based service on their 100% free services and not continue to remove them.

“The budgeted” would have been helpful if LMI gave notice by end of last year so when plannig for this year we can budget it or look elsewhere. LMI could’ve done better job at giving notice to ppl not like first get ppl addicted and then give them 7 days that’s it.

I got an e-mail to my personal mail account today that as of today, LMI Free was no longer available. I hadn’t heard anything about it before today when the community got slammed with posts about it.

I am happy LMI Central customers are alright, but it’s all in the delivery.
