I received this email today, anyone know what is going on?

As of January 21, 2014, LogMeIn Free will no longer be available. To continue using remote access, you will need to purchase an account subscription of LogMeIn Pro.

There blog says: http://blog.logmein.com/it-management/logmein-changes

This is going to be a painful situation for our business as we cannot just yet afford the Pro version for over 100 computers. Wow, what a blow.

HAHA. Sorry, I just got really thrown by the email I just received.

Think with a Central Subscription I might be okay for work, but not for my personal account supporting family.

With a Central subscription you can still support and deploy free hosts.

Thanks for putting mine at the top, it brought a tear to my eye.

Ben, I don’t even use LogMeIn so I can’t comment on the technical and commercial implications of this, but I will tell you one thing - in my opinion you have majorly screwed up in how you’ve communicated this one.

If you got the communication right then sure, you’d have some pissed off customers because nobody likes to have to pay for something that used to be free, but right now you also have a bunch of people who’ve never used LogMeIn products who probably never will because now when they hear the name they’ll think “Oh yeah they’re the ones who pulled the free service at zero notice”.

I know they say there’s no such thing as bad publicity but there is Ben, and it’s quite a remarkable own goal really.

Heads should roll in your Corporate PR or Marketing or whoever decided on the strategy on how you told you customers about this.

Not really “Free” though is it. Nice try though…

“Service Extortion” is a better term.

The email.

How long do you think it will take for them to realize that maybe they made a bad move? lol.

Let me convince my company and customers to pay for it in the next 7 days.

From http://blog.logmein.com/investors/free-changes-investors:

While we intend to provide additional information regarding the financial implications of this change during our February 13th earnings call, we want to share some initial details for the investment community.

Currently, consensus revenue estimates for LogMeIn in 2014 are $190.3 million. While it’s too early to project the precise impact of this initiative, we anticipate our 2014 revenue will be consistent with these estimates without any revenue contribution from this business model shift. However, management believes there may be some incremental revenue contribution as a result of this program, depending on the number of users that convert to our premium offering.

Thanks, Ben. THat is a relief.

“I know they say there’s no such thing as bad publicity”

I like that. And given the number of chains on Spiceworks today, LogMeIn is definitely in the DoNotUse or Recommend list. Of what is the current count? 2 MILLION IT pros.

I sure wouldn’t want to be on the hit list of that many people who use(d) my software.

LogMeIn meet NetScape.

I wonder how that will turn out for them…

What they don’t say is 2015 estimated revenue will be about 50% of 2014 and steadily decline from there…

I’m sure Ben is getting bombarded with all kinds of hatred today but the lack of response from him or anyone at LogMeIn is pretty pathetic. At least a “Hey we’re passing your feedback along” or something like that may at least stop some of the bleeding on here.

This is an example of “Doing IT wrong” . Sean needs to use this debacle as an example to future GG’s .

SO with a subscription… you can deploy free hosts?

So then it isn’t free?
