Today I learned, you can use Logmein Free to connect to a remote PC, install TeamViewer, connect to TeamViewer, and uninstall Logmein Free.

I think is old news by now?..I hope Spiceworks does not develop a reputation for constantly dancing on a companies grave when they screw up…

Nobody said it’s going to be funny forever, and we’ll let it fizz out gradually, no one-week limit.

We’re venting
think of it as this…we had a girlfriend…we made plans to get married forever…then she left us at the altar
it’s allowed

No, the community tries to hold vendors ACCOUNTABLE and try to prevent poor customer service mistakes. The fact that they didn’t listen from the start and instead threw a young guy to the wolves with no backup or leeway to say more than the company line, wasn’t good.

And the community has more then risen to the occasion of holding log me in accountable. Based on the countless topics created since the news broke.
But topics like this, don’t encourage discussion nor hold people accountable.
LMI have ducked tail between legs and run away, so by continuing topics like these, what message is the community sending to vendors? Spice-works (my opinion) is about vendors and IT pros entering into discussion, not “holding accountable”
Vote with your wallets, if you disagree with the product, don’t buy it. Simples.
and FYI, I totally agree LMI dropped the ball.

hic…but she said we’d be together forever!..and then she said she lied!

LogMeIn got where it is today because of US!
Someone said this on another thread.
We were the unpaid salespeople for LMI.
This has probably happened to countless people within the last few days.
and for me, some of it has gone like this
“you know the remote thingy you said would be free forever…well now it’s telling me that my account will be closed in 7 days unless i pay”
That makes ME look bad…worse yet as a guy who is now building a reputation!
$99 for 2 computers?
I’m not gonna even address the LMI central issue which has me pissed off beyond words. We’d pull, but we’re over the barrel and can’t help it.
however let’s try to put it this way…we’re going full steam on a project that has to be complete within the next 3 weeks.
all while juggling 3-4 major support cases.
we have no manpower to devote to that.

To add…
Today I learned that I cant use logmein to remote to my machines, on my paid account, from my chromebook any longer.

You had a girlfriend, you went round her place eating her food all the time, watching her TV, never took her out to dinner.
She decides to dump you as you are a free-loader.
The exception to this is the paying customers, free users fit into the above quite nicely.
But you are not salespeople, You took a “free product” and gave it to people, with the
understanding that it is an entirely free product/service. Yes they promised “free forever”
but the banks promised not to fai…Oh wait, Hang on a second. We’ve been here before.
The actual paying customers have a lot to deal with and I get that, as for the free users?..If they were using a free service as a mission critical tool for commercial purposes…why?

Erm…
My current and last employers (government, major corp) use SpiceWorks (“free forever”) as their mission critical tools. Bummer.

With respect, Nothing in this life can be guaranteed forever. Try as we might there will always be changes to the plan.
bref mi fren…
we took LMI free from our personal lives and got the paid versions for our professional lives.
that is how they grew. Anyone who asked me about remote access, my first response since ~2007 was LMI
Quite a few of those guys also carried LMI into their business lives and paid for it as well.
However the method of notification and their practice in general has me worried.
What if there was a contractor that you recommended to people…that one day decided to pull something a lot of people depended on, then proceeded to offer an outrageous price for a limited version of that service.
that’d be kind of embarrassing for you as a person.
Trust is the easiest thing to go…and the hardest to get back, and even so, you never fully trust someone after they’ve burnt you before.
You’ll find a plethora of threads like this in the few more days.
I cannot as of now change from central. Howerver when i get the chance, i definitely will!
