So, LogMeIn just got rid of the free access software =/ (for those of you who dont know you could use LogMeIn for free you just couldnt use it to transfer files) I imagine its because the allure for file transfer isnt there anymore since pretty much everyone has a (ok im going to say it dont throw anything at me please) cloud drive (dropbox, google drive, box ext… ). so this pretty much sucks for us that like to use the remote software to help out family ext…
my question is this, what other remote software do any of yall use, of the free range variety, and how well do they work?

Teamviewer is the best for over the internet support. Good old Windows RDP or UltraVNC is best for supporting users on your LAN.

So…what are the alternatives?
I wouldn’t mind paying for it, had I actually used it regularly. I prefer RDP, but use LMI as a backup in case an IP changes.

Moving to the LMI group.
Hopefully getting all of them in one place for their GG to see will help 'em see the light.
Also, killing their Free product was inevitable from the day they released it. It was simply a matter of how long it would take. LMI Free offered too much functionality to remain free forever.
Where LMI is going wrong isn’t that they want money for their product (gasp!). It’s the sudden notice, short timeout, and automatic charging of on-file credit cards with larger fees for existing Central customers that has folks up in arms. Toss their cold-fish “Yeah, deal with it” attitude and I doubt this is going to end well.

wow, there is a log me in forum? that’s crazy talk!
and I didn’t see the other posts I guess because they are in the log me in forum and I was looking in the software forum…
we do pay for logmein at work (we actually use Remotely Anywhere, which is a great LogMeIn product btw) but I use it every once in a while to help family out and I don’t have the extra cash to burn on something I don’t use often.
oddly enough, from using the free version of LogMeIn for personal uses is what got me to have work purchase 300 seats of Remotely Anywhere when we needed to update our remote assistance software. even though our original vendor gave us a way better price.

More like a dozen now I think.
I had no idea either. Their GG is completely absent in discussions until he’s out to mitigate this damage and now he is hiding because he only made it worse.

I’m starting to think he’s a bot… His generic responses have me laughing over here… and I didn’t know there was a logmein forum here either… even if I was previously subscribed I don’t remember getting any notices of posts here… and I use LMI daily…

Just got the email about that as well. A sad day has come. Let us spare a minute of silence for logmein free.

The good thing is there are plenty of alternatives for user-initiated support. TeamViewer, Join.me, and so forth. I don’t know of too many that allow administrative connections without user authorization, which is what I need for my machines at home. I may have to move to VNC, but that still relies on routing…which I already have RDP for. LMI was a backup in case the routing was goofed.
