I messed up. I was backing up my network with Barracuda until one of our servers quit backing up. In the process of trying to uninstall the agent before a re-install, I somehow killed it on the backup server. So no recent backups. Fast forward to today. We were hit with a ransomware attack that encrypted nearly everything (caught them in the act so was able to block some). What I have is a 2+year old backup that, if I can recover files from it, will go a long way toward filling in the missing pieces.

Does anyone have a working copy of Barracuda Backup? We were on version 10.5. I will gladly come to you with the backup and a drive on which to push the files. (I’m in VA.) When I reached out to B., all I got was a “sorry, that product went end-of-life 6 or 7 years ago”.

Thanks

First, welcome to the community…second, sorry about your loss. As they say, if you haven’t tested your backups, you have no backups…lessons learned?

I’m unable to help, as I haven’t touched any Barracuda systems in close to 5 years, and even then, we were at a higher level.

Looking through the site and way back was unsuccessful. Yosemite Server Backup is about what you’d want. But, all the available links result in 404’s. I’m surprised support doesn’t have a viable option for older software. The Backup Export Tool might be an option. It is a light app for pulling data out of a backup. Also, this is a stretch - if you have access to a Linux box, you might be able to spin up an old image and access the backup that way. Linux users never delete anything. So, there’s likely a distro floating about, or a repository that still contains something close to the version you need.

Sorry for your strife. Check with local MSP’s and see if any of them are using Barracuda for backups. It might be pricey, but it should be just what you need.

I searched for “Backup Export Tool” and came up empty - all the links were dead. Thanks.
I never had a disk with the software; both the initial install and subsequent update(s) were performed directly from the web (or if downloaded, not to be found).

I don’t suppose there’d be a bone yard? You know, where there’s a stack of old systems and/or drives. The IT Dumpster Dive - That sounds like it should be an event. Like, an old IT SysAdmin profile. I know I never download direct to a server. So, there might be a copy squirreled away on an old system.
@Nerf_Herder is bang on with that notion. You might find an MSP or a service that does drive restoration might have the software.

Do your backup files have a .par suffix? Barracuda was using a somewhat version agnostic file format (Portable ARchive ) there should be tools for reading that…

No, they do not have a .par suffix. All of the files within an archive have the same short name with sequential extensions.

Can you be a bit more specific on what product and implementation you are asking about? I’m guessing from minimal context clues you are working with Yosemite Server Backup - master or server client - Windows or Linux. I haven’t used YSB since probably 2017 and it is gone from my world. But then there was mention of the Backup Export Tool which is a download from their current Backup Appliance product family.

Sorry, between the title and description, I thought that gave enough info. I was using Yosemite Backup (which is now EOL), installed on a Windows backup server, to backup our network. If I have the name wrong, I’m struggling due to everything being encrypted. I tried to find the mentioned tool, but all of the links ended up with a “page not found” error. I continued to use it (until I killed it) since it was working fine for our needs, backing up to removable drives. Now I have one of those and am hoping to find someone who, like me, continued to use it or has it installed on a server that I could “borrow” to pull the data from my old backup.
