Greetings Everyone,
We are having problems with the network scan. We have set it to automaticly scan the network everyday at 10 AM. When this is done, there are 52 errors and 61 offline in our 120 workstation inventory.
The 61 offline could be correct, as a lot of people are out of the office today. But the problem is the 52 errors that we get. While with the old spiceworks (2.0 I believe) we only had about 3 of them. Another weird thing is that when I rescan a single device (I select it, then press refresh) the error vanishes. But it is back as soon as I do a complete network scan.
I hope that someone has a answer to my problem. I am going to check if WMI and DCOM are still set up properly (should be) or that maybe the loging account has been modified in spiceworks (I doubt it).
Thanks in advance,
Marc

I would love to get some intel on this. The situation has changed now. Yesterday the scan showed 120 workstations, 60 offline and 39 errors.
This morning, (after the new scan) we got 111 workstations (i found some duplicates which i deleted) 50 offline and 61 errors.
So yesterday i thought that this was going to resolve itself, but now it only seems to get worse. We did not have any problems (except maybe 2 or 3 errors) on our previous install, and nothing has changed in our network.
Sorry, stupid from me to forget that. This is the error we’re getting: This device appears to be a Windows computer, but it isn’t responding to remote requests. This can happen for a number of reasons including permission settings for the user specified. Please see the help section.

Gegroet!
Als er dingen zijn gebroken niets is dom.
Are you in a domain or workgroup?
This means that when WMI tries to connect/login to those machines that there is no response from
the machine.
- Open a command prompt and run this command from the Spiceworks ‘host’ computer to one of your
problematic remote machines:
c:\ wmic /user:username /password:yourpassword /node:remotemachine
systemenclosure get serialnumber
Please let me know if you receive a serial number or error.
- Keep the command prompt open and also perform a reverse lookup on that same machine:
e.g. nslookup
- Can you temporarily disable UAC on the vista machine and try to scan it again? We are not
encouraging turning UAC off but I would like to drill down a little further. If you can scan
correctly skip steps 2 & 3, otherwise, re-enable UAC and continue.
- Can you verify that the account that you are using in Spiceworks is in the Administrators Group
Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Local Users and Groups > Groups > Administrators.
- Also, verify the the DCOM and WMI security settings are correct.

Do you have the Windows Firewall turned on?
Hoop dat dit helpt
Heeft u een goede dag!
vaak als er iets kapot is, komt het door iets doms
Thanks for your help Talon!
We are using a domain.
WMI and DCOM are configured properly (and I can get a serial number) nslookup works properly aswell.
I am sorry, I dont know what UAC is and we do not use vista. The account that we use is the same Administrator account that we use on all of our machines (the administrator account is configured both locally on each computer and trough the network.)
The firewall shouldn’t be a problem as we have deployed a script that sets the firewall (with the netsh command) as suggested in other threads. And another thing that suggests that everything is set up correctly is that if I scan a single workstation (one that has the error) it will scan the workstation properly. But as soon as I start a network scan, the error comes back.
I want to thank you again for helping.
take care,
Marc

This will likely be one of those instances where SW will want to see your log files. Reference that you did all the things above. http://community.spiceworks.com/help/How_Do_I_Send_Spiceworks_My_Log_Files%3F?query=zip+and+send+log+files
Can I just send the package and reference to this topic? Or do I need to wait untill one of the spiceworks staff members visited this topic and see if they have a solution or any other idea’s?

I’d email them. If there was a readily apparent answer, it hasn’t been posted here yet. Everything I have suggested so far has been the suggested troubleshooting by SW staff.
I hope they can resolve it for you.
It’s 1700 here now, time to go home. I will send a mail first thing in the morning. Thank you for your help! take care, Marc
