Hello. I am new to the MSP world. I’m currently looking for some software that will allow me to easily remote access computers, and will active monitor and alert me of issues.

You’re gonna get a whole list of suggestions but to be honest, they’re all as good/bad as each other. Some people prefer one over another.

If you’re just starting out, I suggest looking at the month-to-month offerings (I think Ninja has those). Essentially, you’ll need to try a few and make your own criteria.

AutoTask and Connectwise are the bigger two but they’re pretty cumbersome. and can get pricey out of the gate.

Yep be careful not to get locked into a product that takes more time to manage than it saves you. You have to look a your client base that you are targeting and go from there

I have been a one person show for 13 years and have gotten away with LogMeIn and using the reporting tools of servers, backup software, AV/anti malware packages. Is it perfect no but for me it works. I had employees then i would be looking for something.

What i found annoying when was starting out was minimums many MSP services wanted so I started with a mix of LogMeIn Free (no longer in existence) LogMeIn Pro which grew with LogMeIn Central

Good luck

I would say it is also based on how much work you want to do in maintaining and keeping the RMM tool up to date. We have Labtech, which is owned by ConnectWise. Labtech is a great and powerful tool but it is a beast and requires a lot of attention if you want it done correctly. Starting out I would suggest something a little easier to maintain until you get settled.

Rather than looking into remote software, you may want to focus on the software your firm is using. Else often customers may have existing software and should focus on those your customers are using.

Please check out Splashtop Remote Support Premium Pack . It’s currently in beta right now. It has basic monitoring and alerting features (as of this writing). It will be much more cost effective than any RMM and Central Premier tool out there as Splashtop is committed to deliver the best value to MSPs. Splashtop Remote Support Basic and Plus and On-demand Support have been adopted by over 60k+ MSPs. Premium is a new package we are launching officially soon (currently in beta) that will offer monitoring features you are looking for at great value pricing. If you are looking for full featured RMM, Autotask, Naverisk, Atera, NinjaRMM, and a few other RMM tools all embed Splashtop remote control into their products. I’m here to answer any question. thanks

I am a big fan of ScreenConnect, and for me the price is right. In the past I have used both Splashtop and LogMeIn. As stated earlier, there are many options, you need to find what fits your needs.

I have heard a few good things about LogMeIn and also microsoft use it themselves and whenerver they have connected to my machines they seem to be quite consistent and fast. I dont believe it is to hard to use either

Spiceworks for monitoring (remote sites can be done either by another Spiceworks desktop installation set in remote collector mode or by a simple VPN tunnel with static route at “home base” to have your local Spiceworks go over the tunnel and scan) and Dameware or Splashtop. I’ve looked at the 2 remote assistance apps and these 2 seem to be the most feature rich at the lowest price. You could use VNC through the VPN for free but if you can’t get DNS working through the tunnel and IP’s are dynamic at customer’s site, you could end up losing access if IP’s refresh/change. Also if the tunnel goes down but they still have internet, with Dameware or Splashtop (or similar), you’ll still be able to get remote access.

Hi Ronald - Could you expand on the type of features, specs, and budget expectations you’re looking for?

If you’re looking for something light to start with, you could check out ConnectWise Control (our remote support software) and see if that would fit your needs. As you build your stack, ConnectWise Automate (our RMM software) could be a good solution down the line!

If you’re a little unsure on what the right option may be for your environment, feel free to PM me your contact info and I can get you in touch with a member of my team to help you out!

Hope that helps!

Thanks everyone for all of the information. I’m using ScreenConnect right now. I’m going to look at some other options out there as well.

Hey Ronald,
I would like to suggest two options here for you, which comes with complete remote control capabilities.

  1. Desktop Central MSP

  2. Zoho Assist.

Please give a try on these solutions, and DM me if you need a personalized solution for any of these.

Cheers!

Hi, when it comes to remote viewing - there are tons of programs out there. There’s RDP, VNC, TeamViewer and many more (including the ones mentioned above).

Monitoring-wise, take a look into NetCrunch network monitor . It’s completely agent-less, deploys in minutes, runs well on a VM and can give you remote access to most Windows machines (event logs, user data, hardware and software information and much more). I can go on explaining the features, but probably the best way is to run it yourself and see the capabilities.

NetCrunch is free and unlimited for 30 days. It also comes with free support, even for trial installations.
