I just set up a new thin client workstation running Win XPe on our network. I have joined it to our domain and it is running the SMTP service. When I test the IP address, it passes with both Windows Authentication (WDM) and SNMP (Public). However, when I actually scan it, it is not discovered (in other words, it not only doesn’t pick up any device information, it doesn’t even add the IP address into the Unknown category). In the months since I started using Spiceworks this has never happened to me. If it passes the test, it always successfully scans the device. Always. And yes, I checked to make sure the IP address and network name were not excluded.

Has anyone else out there had this experience? If so, what did you do to fix it?

I guess my issue isn’t similar enough to yours for your fix to work. I followed the steps you outlined, but when I edited the kuids.yaml file in Notepad, neither the IP address nor the network name of the device were present. I reread your post and realized that I missed the part about you deleting all the content in your file. What ramifications will there be to me doing that? I have a fair amount of manually-entered data (Asset Tags, Etc.). Could I potentially lose all that data and have to enter it again? (I guess maybe that is why we create a backup of the file before taking such action). I can tell by looking at the contents of the file that none of my customized data is in there, but I don’t know how it links to the file that does contain that data. Will it successfully link back once another scan is run?

MAC address was also not in the file. It’s like the device doesn’t exist (even though it passes 2 tests and I am able to successfully run ping, tracert & nslookup from the IP when I manually set up the device in SW).

{"@type":"Person
acollins
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/acollins"}},{"@type":"Answer
