I’ve had this issue for a couple of years with Spiceworks on-prem. Software Inventory only seems to be created when the object is scanned, and doesnt update after that. I’ve had to delete my objects and rescan the network for it to pick up major changes, or manually select each item and re-scan. With several hundred computers, this is not viable and is time consuming. Perhaps I’m overlooking a setting that will allow the regular scans to update the inventory as well?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Idaho IT Guy!
Is the Enable Scheduled Scanning option enabled in the Spiceworks settings?
I found this related topic Software Inventory not updating

Yes, I have it enabled. I also had read elsewhere to change “scan speed” to slow and “Scanner sends all data instead of deltas” to on. However, neither of those changes have improved the result set.

Thank you.

What about the version, are you using the latest version?

I think it’s worth asking a question to Spiceworks support regarding this issue.

@spiceworks-support-team

It’s been over two years since the app received any attention, and only 2.5 months until it’s no longer supported at all. Bugs having to do with scanning software, at this point, are many.

We can troubleshoot this, but have you considered the Inventory Online option?

7.5.00107, which is being reported as up to date.

Yes, aware of the end of life of the product. Had considered migrating to the cloud version, but from what I recall, there were differences in the reporting aspect.

We’re currently using on-prem Helpdesk for ticket management, and inventory for hardware/software discovery and reporting.

You need to begin thinking about migrating away - either to our Cloud products, or another vendor.

You can use Power BI to report on Inventory and Help Desk stuff now, so the reporting is a lot more than it was at launch.

sending data to the cloud IS NOT an answer that a financial institution will accept.

Sure - that’s why I suggested moving to another vendor would be appropriate. We understand the CHD or Cloud Inventory isn’t something that everyone can use.

Brendan, I get it.

I’ve used Spiceworks for years and it’s sad to see the end in sight. the community is great and filled with experts with a wealth of knowledge. sadly, any online version of the inventory product (think SolarWinds) opens us up to data theft…so we’ll use the on-prem solution while it lasts.
