For some reason Spiceworks is not inventorying software on the computers. I have checked all DCOM and WMI settings, and even tried disabling the firewall on the remote computers, all to no avail. I’m not getting any errors. 3 of our 20 machines are having their software inventoried, but that’s it. Any suggestions?

2 Spice ups

Good luck getting an answer on this. I have been using Spiceworks for over a year and constantly struggle with this problem.

Workaround: I find that if you delete the computer that is missing the software inventory then set up a single scan of its ip address it will often pick up the software inventory.

I do my regular scans of subnets like 192.168.2.2-50 and run in to this problem all the time. It has been suggested that I break the scans down even more but this does not help. We have several hundred PC’s on our network so the network scan screen in Spiceworks would be a mile long if I did this. Ideally I would like to set up a scan with something like this 192.168.2-5.2-100 but when doing so the software inventory is often missing. It is very troublesome since the primary reason for us using Spiceworks is to have an accurate software inventory.

OBTW, 99% of our machines are XP SP2 without a firewall and on a gigabit network.
