Software not showing on inventory

We have some software installed on a number of computers throughout our company. We’re trying to get an accurate inventory of which computers have it installed, so I looked to SpiceWorks for an answer.

It shows the program is installed on 29 of our computers and lists which ones it found the software on. The problem is I know it’s missing at least one installation, if not more. I sit across from a technician, and I know for a fact the program is installed on her computer, but the SpiceWorks inventory doesn’t show that it is, and surprisingly, doesn’t show that it’s not either. Her computer is completely missing from the inventory, at least where this particular program is concerned. Anyone have any ideas?

First, verify if anything else is being scanned from her machine or if her machine is simply not being picked up at all (like WMI is not accessible.)

Secondly, if the machine is being scanned but the software is not being picked up then check her machine to see if Add/Remove Programs thinks that that software is installed or if it may have gotten installed through some other means.

Your comment: “Her computer is completely missing from the inventory, at least where this particular program is concerned.” is interesting.

Is her computer missing? If so, you either have a different admin password for that computer, you don’t have SNMP (and WMI) installed or you are blocked by her firewall.

Let us know what you find.
