Henry David Thoreau provides one of my favourite quotes. He died in his forties of tuberculosis and on his deathbed, was asked by an aunt whether he had made his peace with God. He reputedly answered “I was not aware that we had quarrelled.”

Langley’s use of a house boat let to the US Navy naming its first aircraft carrier USS Langley. Langley’s connection with the Smithsonian led to him being credited as making the first viable airplane for decades, even though his Aerodrome was barely controllable while the Wright Flyer had working 3 axis controls, but they were a couple of self taught mechanics and Langley was connected. The Smithsonian eventually backed down and acknowledged the Wright brothers
