This is part of the Spiceworks Community field-guide.
Points & Levels: How hot can you get?
Members in Spiceworks are categorized by Spiceworks Levels, sometimes referred to as ‘Pepper Levels’. The more you participate, the more points you accumulate, and the higher your pepper level! Points are given for providing best answers, posting how-tos, writing scripts, and lots of other stuff.
If you’re just now starting out, you may still be a Pimiento. Pimientos are somewhat restricted in their activities, as our community team has to first make sure that you’re not just a bot, a spammer, or a non-pro home user. But once you really start participating, you won’t be a Pimiento for long.
Needless to say, members are often very proud when they reach the next pepper level and they want to share the news with their fellow IT pros. Understandable! So we created a thread just for this purpose – the Official “I made the next pepper level!” topic. It’s been going strong since 2011!
Once you reach Thai Pepper, you automatically belong to a special group called “Spicy Peppers.” This group is often thought of as being the veterans of the community, due to not just their length of time in the Spiceworks Community, but also their high degree of participation.
But Spicy Peppers isn’t the last bar to reach. The “Pure Capsaicin” is the highest level of engagement we have here in the Spiceworks Community! It’s an achievement only a handful of members have achieved and this is because it takes commitment, tenacity, drive, determination, IT intelligence and, most of all, a genuine desire to help their peers to reach the required 250,000 points it takes to reach such a level.
Earning Points
Curious as what you can do to earn points towards your score? The best way, of course, is helping out members with a question and earning a “Best Answer” as this awards the most points (and feels good to help others!). But, that is not the only way. You can also earn points by engaging in conversations and getting your posts “spiced up.” Just remember, it’s about the quality, not the quantity.
This post goes a bit more into it as we transitioned from the vintage platform to our latest one: Some Changes to the Spice Points System
