I just recently got hired to a new company and I’ve been tasked with coming up with an April Fool’s day joke to play on the users. Specifically one that doesn’t impact their work. Anyone got any good stories of previous pranks or ideas for a new one? I’ve got Group Policy and Remote Powershell at my disposal.

Masking tape on the undersides of the mice with April Fools written on the bottom of it?

We added “voice control commands” to the copiers in our office and gave a list of commands. So needless to say hearing users yelling at the copiers was awesome!

Here are some good ideas.

has a lot of pranks

Make a GPO that switches left and right-clicking.

I wrote a very simple batch file and created a scheduled task to run the batch file every 30 minutes on user computers. It started a hidden chrome window pointed at:

http://www.zombo.com

So it was funny, but not offensive when their computers would just fire off the silly audio from that website.

GPO their desktops to some hideous solid color and have it change every 5 minutes or so

Create hotkeys to pop up completely unrelated Google searches or other webpages

Eject the CD drives (if equipped)

Growing a lawn in a keyboard is always fun. Takes some time and planning though

Providing your company uses Google chrome or Firefox, a GPO to auto add the nCage extension. Every image will be changed to one of Nicholas Cage while it’s active.

Changing their wallpapers should be enough to get some of the users going crazy

You can never go wrong with airhorns being taped underneath the chair and raised all the way up

Planning for April’s fool this early?

Are you sure you’re not the fool in this?

Go to El Reg an follow the BOFH. He always has ideas…

I liked that one! Watercress would work faster.

also entirely possible a this point. But mostly I think my boss is tired of thinking up new ideas. He was the only IT guys here before, and now there are 2 of us.
