Here at Netwrix we tried to be a bit more creative this year and really put an effort into our April 1st video about new technology that captures sysadmin brain activity via bluetooth and predicts future actions (fortunately it’s not real YET). One Spice Head even asked me if works on SAM’s brain or not - I said we haven’t tested it yet :slight_smile:

I saw two others shared: voice-activated copier (this is cool) and April Fools engagement (not a prank though). My two all-time favorites are Gmail Motion and Test your mobile app on cats .

Years ago we decided to play an april fools joke on our site manager. We got the whole office to convince him that the servers had gone down entirely and there was no way we would ever bring them back up. We figured it would get a good stir out of him if he thought that it would have to be rebuilt from the ground up. We went with a power surge and failed UPS systems that took out an entire rack of critical servers.

Just as we were about to tell him it was an April fools joke he clapped his hands together and said, “Well I was going to wait till just after lunch, but I guess this is as good a time as any. I’m getting married! I was planning an office party to celebrate, so lets gets started!”

This was not an April Fools joke. Many didn’t believe it and finally someone broke down and asked if he was pulling our leg cause it was April Fools.

He finally caught on to our joke after that, but in good spirit we still took the day off and partied in celebration… as he put it “Of my union AND the servers still working!”

One of my all time favorite April Fools day pranks was when the guys from 2600 Magazine who own the domain name “hope.net” started redirecting hope.net to Barack Obama’s campaign website. Then on April 1st they “hacked” “hope.net”.
