Is it just me, or does any else think of the community as a geeky/IT ‘Facebook’ per se ?
Just without the junk Facebook embeds…

I can see where you draw the link, but Facebook has nothing compared to the Spiceworks community.

I didn’t really mean that, sorry if that’s how it came across.
I mean in the context, that I have the community open during the day, reply to the odd topic, spicing up topics and replies, etc… much in the same way on Facebook, people comment on odd posts, like posts and comments, etc…
I do use Facebook, but I’m more of a voyeur of it, whereas I’m active in the community.

No, facebook has no real purpose but to waste time. I am not sure how you can even compare the two.

The Watercooler section may have some likeness to Facebook, but that’s it. Most of the community is a tool with a purpose, a hive-mind of IT.

I dislike Facebook - but love Spiceworks.
I wish there was an app for the community.

There is! You can download the Spiceworks App! The latest update allows you to connect to the community
I definitely a much more engaged and relevant way to connect with your peers, vendors and IT pros without feeling like you’re getting spammed or subjected to random rants. It’s probably what some Facebook users thought they would be getting.
I definitely see the similarity! I believe Spiceworks has been called “Facebook for IT” before.
What I love about Spiceworks (coming from a traditional social media marketing background) is how much more personal it is. The brand I managed on FB/Twitter had some regular fans we would engage with, but Spiceworks feels like a family! You get to know the people really well compared to FB where they just engage only with your product.

Well, they are both social networks. I definitely like Spiceworks better.
Not in the slightest. I use this site for research, helping other IT pro’s and newbies out alike and to socialize with other like minded IT folks.
And for the cool vendor swag

“to socialize with other like minded IT folks.”
Isn’t that what people do on Facebook, just not in an IT realm?
Difference being there (not always but most of the time) very intelligent discussions going on here about all things IT.
Facebook = mostly derp.
Linkedin = people I would recommend or work with.
Facebook = People I would socialise with.
Some people make both, some just one, some neither.
