Hi everyone,

I’m trying to land on some inexpensive 24 and 48 port switches preferably with PoE for future wireless. I’m not sure which access point I’ll go with yet although I’ve played some with both Aruba and Meraki and am intriqued with Ubiquiti.

That being said, I’ve been looking at the EdgeMax switches but have questions as to:

Reliability - Will they last?

Configuration - I will be doing some Link Aggregation and Virtual Lan. GUI? Overall management.

PoE - I’ll be honest, I don’t understand the passive vs active, the different voltages, various distances of each, compatibility with different AP’s.

Compatibility with other switches - Smaller 8-16 port classroom and other use switches.

Anything I might not have thought up.

Budget is tight and I need one 48 port and two 24 port (at this point). I know there are a lot of questions but I’m hoping some of you Spiceheads have had some experience with these.

I’ve just used some popping them in for some UniFi wifi systems The 24v Passive and 48v (Normal POE) are really there for their own UAP access points which need the 24V passive power supply but handles normal POE devices fine.

GUI web based interface aswell as CLI. Only played with the GUI myself, easy to navigate and set up. Also has some great functionality such as DHCP pools, Voice Vlans, etc. Didn’t have a massive amount of time to play with them but they really hit the mark for what we needed.

Hope that helps.

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

I was wondering if there are authorized re-sellers or is it factory direct? Where is the best place or way to purchase?

{"@type":"Person
stephenmantz
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/stephenmantz"}}]}}
