Going to be completely unplugged for a week starting Saturday night. I am not looking forward to my e-mail accumulation while I am gone.

If you’ve never done it, go someplace where there’s no internet access for a week. Where you can’t check your phone, even if you wanted to. Be careful however, you might enjoy it too much.

Good luck!

Thanks. Actually it’s kind of made me stressful this week because there were things I wanted to do and changes I wanted to make, but I’m not going to make any substantial changes and then do a vanishing act for a week. I just don’t like doing that.

2 of my coworkers are then out of town at a conference the day after I get back for a week and then one on vacation for a week so it will be an interesting 3 weeks coming up.

I think I worry more about going to Spiceworld, because they will be able to reach me

We shall miss you (maybe). You could consider it a detoxification period.

Probably you are still adept at handling something that is not equipped with a keyboard.

Brought something like that, for moments of crisis withdrawal.

I was actually thinking perhaps I should reclaim my childhood and acquire one of these… It got me through so many long car rides as a kid.

I am also off for a weeks holiday with no wifi and whilst I could use Data on my phone to get my work email, I have absolutely no intention of doing so. I expect to come back to a shedload of email but I don’t care right now.

My only real concern for the next 7 days is filling my camera chips and not having a laptop to get them backed up to so that I can take more pics.

I went to Tunisia last year and stopped in a room that the hotel wireless didn’t reach too. Being North Africa too the charges for mobile data were £6/mb. Safe to say I left my phone in the safe all holiday and read a book instead.

I’d have to say it was the best weeks holiday I’ve ever had in terms of feeling relaxed…

You are making me to panic before a holiday.

I do something technical, even on holiday.

I think tomorrow I will go to see if my metal detector still works properly.

My son has a collection of tabs of cans to be frightening!:frowning:

That will be my next hobby once I get bored with fishing and photography!

Lucky bastard. If I went someplace like that for a week I might as well stay there, as there probably wouldn’t be much to come back to. Sucks really.

Can I ask where you’re going?

I had similar recently, except I downloaded a hell of a lot of stuff I’ve been waiting for - went on holiday to Chile and everywhere we stayed had free unlimited wifi. Where I live currently we have extortionate prices, and are capped with massive overage charges…I didn’t use my phone abroad, but used WhatsApp/Facebook on it and downloaded all the steam games

But didn’t do anything work related!

Sounds like a dream…

Take one of these:

This is why I have a PSP, at least I can still veg out and play games on the go.

Just returned a little while ago from one of those trips, boy was it nice not even having cell service, used my phone as a clock and played a little TinyDiceDungeon in the morning while drinking my coffee and staring at the lake through the trees.

Enjoy your time!

Enjoy it! I went to the Tennessee mountains 2 weeks ago for 8 days with absolutely no internet or cell service. Once my phone died I threw it in my bag and didn’t even think about it until I left the mountains. It was a huge eye opener on how attached society has become to technology. Instead of hopping on Reddit or checking emails, I drank beer and floated around in the lake. Instead of answering work calls and troubleshooting remotely, I went for a hike. Granted all the younger people that were there with me complained incessantly that they couldn’t upload their selfies to Instagram or whatever…It was awesome. I came back from the trip refreshed and energized. Take the time away from gadgets and work and truly enjoy it.

Spent a week with no internet and it was good. Had a lot of fun but ended up eating more and drinking a lot more. First time in years where I did not remote back into work everyday to keep on top of everything.

Have fun

Everyone send him PM’s everyday and fill up his mail box just to let him know that he is missing things. Send the messages one letter at a time so he will have to read everyone just to find out what is being said.
