There is a lot of angst out there on whether WoT will be renewed for a new season now that season 3 is complete. Personally I think the series get exponentially better each season. Many avid book fans don’t like it because it strays from the source material, but realistically, the books are so detailed it would take 30 episodes to make just one season. That just isn’t practical.

Robert Jordan’s world and character creation is top notch and Rafe Judkins and team did an awesome job bringing it to the small screen.

Come on Sony/Prime, renew this for another season!!!

Funny timing, I actually just finished watching WoT Season 3. I have not read the books, and did that on purpose when I heard they were doing a streaming series about it. Having read A Song of Ice and Fire, before GoT was even in development, I think I might have enjoyed it a bit more had I read the books afterwards.

So when the show came out, I did constantly comparing what was left out, what was changed, and how certain characters or arcs didn’t live up to what I pictured. It was fun in its own way, but it also made it harder to just enjoy the adaptation for what it was. The surprise and suspense were pretty much gone and each deviation felt like a loss.

My hope is watching the show first, I’ll still be surprised, still learn new things, and honestly, might even appreciate the books more because I already have a framework to hang it all on.

TL;DR – I do hope they do another season for WoT. I enjoyed S3 a lot more in S2.

When did season 3 drop, like you never read the books but I have enjoyed what I have watched.

I read the books when they first came out, waiting years to find out what happened in many cases. The adaptation is different though, because they have just decided that it is another turn of the wheel and aren’t even trying to stay true to the original… I would say it is more like the new Star Trek series based on an alternate timeline instead of being true to the books. They are doing things that were never done in the books and killing off people who never die in the books.

I like it, as I like the new Star Trek movies that are based on an alternate timeline. It’s an interesting story, and I already know the characters (in general), so it’s interesting. But in terms of how I feel about it as “the” story… no better than fan fiction. Watch it, enjoy it… but if you really love the world, read the books.

Each season is definitely getting better than the last. S3 was excellent and I’m sad that it’s ending.

I agree that each season has gotten better. I think Lanfear was definitely an upgrade.

I read the first couple of books but they didn’t hold my attention the way Malazan, The Black Company and Game of Thrones did.

Hopefully they’ll commit to more seasons and finish it out.

I read all the books as they came out over the years. I do understand there were many and most of the books IIRC were 500-700 pages, so lots of content. I haven’t went back to compare to the novels, but to me, the first two seasons were out of place in that the timeline didn’t match my recollections. I will say the last season is the best one so far. I’ve taken a relaxed attitude and hope that they don’t really mess it up, like with my other favorites series like:

Shannara, Sword of Truth, Games of Thrones Last Season, etc.

There is no decision either way on S4. Fingers crossed Sony/Prime ponies up and green lights it

BTW, I loved Elayne singing ‘The Hills of Tanchico’ in S3Ep6 Ceara Coveney nailed it.

I read the books repeatedly as a child, i was obsessed. I think s3 was a very good adaptation and it certainly is not fan fiction.

Unfortunately the climate for expensive TV is not good.

Agreed, really loved this season

I really liked the books so it’s hard for me to get into the series that changed things so much. Looking at from the perspective of it being a different timeline/age of the wheel I might try it again.

I hadn’t heard of The Black Company before this post. I’m going to have to give it a read now as well.

I am re-reading the series now, I started with New Spring. I am glad for the changes in the series for the most part. Jordan is so detailed I think it would have bogged a live action series down too much to be entertaining. The one thing I miss in the series is Rand’s first meeting with Elayne in the castle.

Even Lord of the Rings had changes and I absolutely loved both the books and movies.

The Books of the North are great.

Annnnnnnnndddddd… It’s canceled. :slightly_frowning_face: 'The Wheel Of Time' Canceled By Prime Video After 3 Seasons (Exclusive)

Who didn’t see that coming?? My SO is a HUGE Robert Jordan fan, but didn’t even bother to start watching the series, as he knew it would either get cancelled or not do the books justice.

Read the Eye of the world and also listened to it as audiobook.

Oh the expletives that are going through my mind. How could they do that? It was the highest viewed program after Reacher on Prime and I thought Reacher season 3 was weak.

Honestly, I am devastated. But I bet they’ll renew that garbage ‘Rings of Power’. That series is a travesty and mockery of everything Tolkien.

Maybe Syfy will pick it up (Fingers crossed)
