I need an SSL certificate for our site and have been looking at different vendors but because this is my first time having to deal with getting an SSL Cert, I’m slightly unsure who you can trust out there and brother are these things pricey.

Right. Thanks, corrected.
Comodo have excellent customer services.
I renewed an SSL certificate with them only to have a project pushed on me that required an additional four certificates.
Comodo were quite happy to refund the cost of the original certificate against the purchase of a wildcard cert. even though it was nearly six months later.
They were also a great help getting certs migrated from old servers to new.

Yeah Godaddy works great and easy to use.
Doesn’t matter which one you go with. I use Go daddy, very simple setup, fast approval processes and cheap.
The customer service is also great.
I HIGHLY recommend GoDaddy, I have had to get refunds and reissue certs because of server or service name changes and they have been FANTASTIC! Never an argument over price and always helpful.
Verisign costs WAAAAAAYY too much, as do most.

InstantSSL by Comodo, for sure. They also give you FREE 90 day trials with no commitments.
If you’re looking for an in-expensive cert, go for GoDaddy, I haven’t had any issues with it and for the basic cert it’s cheap. make sure you Google SSL certs to get the link to GoDaddys “specially” priced page - you’ll pay more if you go directly to their SSL product page - the lower price only comes up when you Google it.
First thing you need to know…there are basically two types of SSL certificates: -
-
Domain Validation (DV): - checks if you have the right to use the domain name your are submitting - its a simple check to ensure you have domain name control and not sending any domain to them.
-
Extended Validation (EV): - includes a more comprehensive set of checks to ensure the applying business is real, properly registered and is contactable etc. Its like a business identity check. This one you have to provide documents and the issuing company would normally like to speak to your accountant or lawyer to confirm details. Can be expensive and or time consuming no matter which company you look to buy from.
Second thing to know…is about the security levels.
This can get a little tricky but essentially you will be offered 128bit and or 256bit encryption standards. The actual encryption depends on other factors such as your host server and the web browser version (that is why they normally say “…up to 256bit encryption”) but don’t worry too much about that. Either option will be fine. Obviously the preferential will be 256bit.
From my own experience, GoDaddy is the cheapest for both DV’s & EV’s. The DV is very easy to set up (its easy with the other companies too). The EV will take you at least 3 months with GoDaddy. They are extremely slow to process the application (hence the time it takes to complete) and is a horrible process with them. The support area that looks after it is terrible (and I really like the rest of GoDaddy’s support teams).
Overall, (after that long winded response) just go get a GoDaddy Standard SSL certificate.

Comodo- InstantSSL is pretty nice.
VerySign- If you have the money, is one of the larger trusted SSL providers.
If your are buying only because you have been imposed to have one then RapidSSL certificate is not a bad choice. You can even try it free for a month. It wiill be issued after proper verification of your domain ownership - details matching from whos who and thru email sent on the same server. Thereafter a telephonic verification. All this takes just few minutes.
The installation is pretty easy on cPanel and you can do it all by yourself.
The email support is also good.
Finally the cost is just USD 29 for 2 years - https://order.trustico.com/geodirect/order/step1.php?progress_key=74656d702d32302d3731353537382d333939323931383034&view_key=
