One thing lacking from the purchasing area is an approval follow-up. My ideal use for using this site to track purchases would allow me to submit a purchase for approval, the system would generate an email or some other sort of notification system to another internal user who has the ability to approve purchases. That person could approve/reject/offer comments, and upon their response, a notification would be sent back to the original ticket creator so they may proceed with the purchasing process.

Right now the purchase system is focused on the user, not the “company.” So it is tied to you as an individual, there doesn’t appear to be any concept of you being a part of an organization. So purchases don’t go between you and other people.

For that type of purchase workflow, I would look at Sharepoint.

Even worse (IMHO) is the fact it’s tied exclusively to a community account, and there is no way to break purchases down into different units or businesses. Maybe someday this will be visited and revamped.

I agree with Scott and Bill. The RFQ and purchasing components need some work.

But, to your question, you could handle this by just creating a ticket for what you want to purchase, either add the price to the ticket body or attach a quote document, and then CC the approver. Once they respond with approve / deny, you can proceed with next steps. And that way it is all in writing. You may want a custom attribute in Spiceworka to flag tickets as those that were for purchase approval initially, but that is up to you.

We just started looking at the purchasing module in spiceworks today, and I agree with the OP, it would be great if you could select a person to send purchase request to for approval from within the purchasing part of spiceworks.

Bill, in the charge to section, can you not select who it is to be charged to, location and department, which should allow you to do what you are looking to do(If I am picking up correctly what you are saying)

You can, but that’s only show you can do reporting and have purchased broken down to departments. It doesn’t do anything for approval.

I sent out my first two quotes yesterday. It’s a good start, but as OP said, I’d like to see a little more in the approval workflow.
