I am trying to add a laptop to inventory. It’s just not working. I setup an single scan for the device by IP address but Spiceworks is not finding it.I have gone through the suggested steps in Inventory Troubleshooting | Finding Missing Devices.
WMI and DNS are all set but the device is not being found.
The Authenticated user is setup correctly.
From the Spiceworks server I have run the following query:
c:\wmic /user:xxxxxx /password:xxxxx /node:10.150.254.202 systemenclosure get serialnumber
I get an access Denied
I run the following query in the laptop:
c:\wmic systemenclosure get serialnumber
I received the correct information
The local Administrator account is authorized in the WMI setup on the local computer.
I am confident that the Firewall is setup correctly for I am able to do my weekly scans without a problem.I have several scan operations setup for several different network segments that are scheduled for different days of the week and they all run without errors
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Run the script noted on the article below by the posts below on the computer
WMI Error or here
@rod-it has provided to many this script to help them inventory the device.

If you get access denied your destination has UAC enabled, run in my registry fix, but also run the WMI firewall rule too, it wont hurt if its already there, if it says OK (modified (4) or (8) then the rules were missing.
Also, file and printer sharing needs to be enabled as per my posts

Thanks for all you work and suggestions.
UAC is disabled on the local box
file and printer sharing is enabled
I ran the regfix as described
I also ran the firewall rule
I also ran the WMIC from the server and it seemed to have connected fine
I also ran the WMCI from the local machine and it seemed to work fine
I set up a scan for the specific IP address and it still does not want to inventory.
What else could be stopping this machine from being inventory?
Thanks,
Mike
I am curious about the Spiceworks inventory interface. When I run a scan on a particular ip address I am getting the attached screen. Does this mean Spiceworks is seeing the device? When the scan is compete the device does not show up in inventory.

Spiceworks sees the device but cannot inventory it until it has successfully logged into the system.
How long does it take to have Spiceworks successfully log in. This the only scan I have going on. All indications are that it has access to the device and the WMIC checked out correctly from the server. Can I speed this up somehow? It seems to be timing out before Spiceworks is able to log in.

It should not take a long time, any errors on the system that you see?
I receive no errors. After the scan it jumps back to the “Scan Overview” but I do see this.

Disregard the green squares, They are form a different segment
FYI…I ran the following query nad I am assuming that WMI is able to talk to the device in question.
I get the same result when I run the WMIC on the local machine

Tell us about the machine - what is it?
Windows?
If so what OS, what version, such as home, pro, education etc.
Is it in the domain or workgroup?
Any third party firewalls?
Where did you enable F&P? In network sharing centre?
Windows 7 Pro SP1
It is a domain computer (laptop)
FortiGate firewall
File and print sharing are turn on

F&P is not the right location.
Right click your network icon, open network sharing centre, go to advanced sharing and enable file and print in there.
Now rescan it.
if your Fortigate is installed on the client, you need to configure this, if you mean that is the edge firewall, its not important here. I am specifically asking about the client itself at present
F&P are turn on in network sharing centre …my mistake
the firewall is managed by the FORTIGATE Server on premise.( if I understand what you are asking)
FYI…This is from the local Device. I ran the WMIC
Fortigate is our edge firewall
I ran another scan with no joy. Thanks for all your help ROD-IT
