I have the weirdest problem that’s doing my head in. I’ve worked on a lot of MS Surface tablets, imaging them with Windows 10 Enterprise. I hit one that is giving me software issues and decided to re-image it but it won’t see the keyboard or mouse.
So here’s the deal: I’m using a USB-C hub with a flash drive, USB NIC, keyboard and mouse. The Surface sees the drive and NIC but the keyboard and mouse don’t work at all. I’ve tried other keyboards, wired and wireless, and I’ve also used the hub on a laptop, all works as expected. I’ve checked the BIOS, all options are enabled. Keyboard doesn’t work in BIOS either.
I’m wondering if the USB-C socket is faulty, but then how does the NIC and drive work? Any suggestions would be appreciated, as right now I think I have an expensive paperweight (it’s stuck in OOBE and without keyboard input I can’t get further).

Just to make sure as it could be that the laptop has to have a specific procedure. It is described here: Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface - Microsoft Support
Thanks @peterw2300 I will give that a try.
UPDATE - downloaded recovery image and applied it; This boots with on-screen keyboard so I was able to install the latest update package for Surface (firmware etc.). External keyboard still does not work. Out of options, I am assuming USB-C is faulty, so I’m sending this in for repair as it has a service plan.

You could be right. There is either a fault or an incompatibility and I do wonder whether a simple USB-C to USB 3.0/2.0 connector might work as opposed to the USB-C hub that you are using.
