Okay so… I have had the same ~1000 mp3’s, seemingly my entire adult life. I like “old” music… and any time I have ever lost any of my music… I have always gone back and collected it again (almost identically). So here is some of the stuff in my collection, most of it old and with quite the range of genre…
- ABBA
- AC/DC
- Black Sabbath
- Iron Maiden
- Ozzy
- CCR
- The Beatles
- A crap-load of 80’s stuff
- Eagles
- Skynard
- Jimi Hendrix
- Bryan Adams
- Eric Clapton
- Guns n Roses
- Foreigner / Trooper
- Thorogood
- Janis Joplin / Jefferson Airplane
- Johnny Cash (very little country)
- Bon Jovi
- Kiss
- Lenny Kravitz
- Metallica
- Michael Jackson
- Motley Crue
- Aerosmith
- Santana
- Paul Simon
- Tragically Hip
- The Stones
- The Who
- U2
- Van Halen
- ZZ Top
ETC,…
With that type of taste in music… I hear stuff on the radio all the time that I like… current/modern stuff… and I just have no idea who it is. I’m not a huge “rap” fan at all but have liked some Eminem, and I’m not a huge country fan, but like Johnny Cash… I hate any type of “house” music I can make myself on ScreamTracker in my basement.
So please help me update my collection. I have two playlists… “the gym” and “everything shuffled” lol… and that is all I ever hear… I need some new stuff. Start tossing out things you think I might like (please). PS. there’s a lot more that I like… I can just never think of it.

I use Pandora, enter an artist I like and it plays that artist and other artists like them. Probably other apps that do the same thing (Maybe spotify, but that’s a paid service). They even have like “Top 100” lists for any genre.

I always have to recommend Linkin Park. They’re not for everyone, but they have been at the top of my list for over a decade now.

I get the feeling you may really like And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead…. Also wondering why Creedence Clearwater Revival isn’t on your list.
Failing that, get on Google Play Music and use the Radio or Explore functions!

Spin Doctors are always good.
Rolling Stones and SRV are staples
Newer Stuff:
White Stripes / Jack White stuff

I don’t know about Pandora. It’s decent until you start liking or disliking things, as it can make your playlist very short. Try the other steaming services to figure out what you want. YouTube can also be a decent source, I’ve found quite a few new songs and bands there.

There’s a new Ronnie James Dio tribute album coming soon…
If you get into 70s prog at all, King Crimson, Yes, original Genesis (w Peter Gabriel), Mahavishnu Orchestra
Frank Zappa has some nice instrumental stuff.
But my best suggestion is to check out GA Tech’s radio station . I listened to this station for nearly a decade before I ever heard anything I knew, and that was some Jazz track. They literally play every kind of music that exists. They play music I never would have believed existed. Some of it sucks, some of it rules, but it’s always different. And they have rotation shows for metal, reggae, country, punk, blues, etc. Tonight at 8pm they play a classic rock show, starting with an album in its entirety, usually from vinyl. Cannot recommend highly enough, even though it’s a stream.

mhache’s list is a good one. I’ll add:
Band of Horses
Kings of Leon
Neutral Milk Hotel
Modest Mouse
Stone Temple Pilots
…and if you want to check my band out (think Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots and early Incubus), our first album is on Spotify, Amazon and CDBaby.
