I updated my version of Spiceworks yesterday to the new 3.5 version. Unfortunately, I can no no longer get Spiceworks to come up on the desktop of the machine where I have it running/installed. I can get to it across my network by entering the URL, but not directly on the machine where it lives. What can I do to fix this?

Welcome to the community

Spiceworks may have installed as a service there should be an icon in all programs? if not c:\program files\spiceworks and then spiceworks_desktop.exe

Hope this helps

The pop-up dialog box saying Spiceworks is starting will come up, but after the orange bar completes it just sits there on screen and never launches in a browser. If I click my mouse on the box, it will disappear but no browser ever comes up. I can see the Spiceworks icon in my system tray and when I right-click on it it does not say it’s running as a service. Also, I can pull up a browser and manually type in the URL with the port number and Spiceworks will come up that way.

Blackhatter1,

I’m sorry you ran into this problem. This is a known issue and we are working on the fix. The workaround is to type in the URL manually, as you already discovered by yourself. Is Spiceworks running on port 80 or 9675 in your environment?

See following thread for more information:

Spiceworks is currently running on port 9675. I had changed it from port 80 to port 9675 quite awhile ago, at the suggestion of another Spiceworks tech, due to an issue with an earlier version of Spiceworks not working right on port 80.

An update was uploaded today to fix the startup problem. Please see the following link for all the details.

Thanks! That resolved this issue!
