We just recently deployed about 30 machines with Windows 7. When the scan is done they all have scan errors: There was a Windows authentication error when attempting to connect to this device. I select the domain admin account and test it. The test passed, but when I do a rescan, the same error comes up.

The firewall has been turned off on the remote machine. I also ran the following from the cmd line on the Spiceworks server: wmic /user:username /password:password /node:ip address systemenclosure get serialnumber. This returned the proper serial number of the remote machine.

I am at a loss here. Does it have anything to do with the WMI, or could there be something else I am missing.

Thanks,

I would double-check the scan range at Settings → Network Scan. It sounds like Spiceworks isn’t configured to use the right credentials.

If that doesn’t work try deleting the scan range, creating a new set of Windows credentials, and then recreating the scan range and selecting the new credentials.

If the WMIC works remotely you shouldn’t have any problems with authentication, firewall, etc.
