BUSINESSWORTH.US – Mazda has officially introduced the CX-80 PHEV in Indonesia, expanding its lineup of premium SUVs. This new model, brought by PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia (EMI), serves as a more luxurious version of the previously launched CX-60.
With its combination of elegant design, advanced technology, and spacious interior, the CX-80 is set to attract executive buyers looking for both comfort and driving pleasure.
The Design Philosophy Behind the CX-80
Ricky Thio, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Mazda Indonesia, emphasized that the CX-80 retains Mazda’s signature ‘Kodo Design’ philosophy. This approach ensures that the vehicle’s curves and lines interact beautifully with light, creating a dynamic visual appeal.
“This vehicle continues to follow the Kodo Design philosophy, which highlights how light enhances the car’s body contours. The CX-80 is a true three-row flagship SUV, offering optimal efficiency through PHEV technology,” Ricky stated at Mazda Head Quarter in Jakarta on January 22, 2025.
Comparing CX-80 and CX-60: Key Differences
At first glance, distinguishing the CX-80 from the CX-60 might be challenging due to their similar exterior designs. Both models adhere to Mazda’s Jinba-Ittai philosophy, ensuring a seamless connection between the car and driver. However, there are distinct differences:
- Front Design: While both models feature Mazda’s signature large grille, the CX-80 is distinguished by three chrome accents exclusive to this model.
- Side Profile: The primary difference lies in the rear D-pillar, which accommodates the third-row seats. The CX-80 has larger windows, enhancing cabin spaciousness.
- Rear Section: The CX-80 shares a similar horizontal LED taillight design with the CX-60, maintaining a modern and stylish look.
A Luxurious Interior for Executive Comfort
Inside, the CX-80 exudes luxury with premium materials and cutting-edge technology. The cabin’s sophisticated atmosphere is enhanced by Nappa Leather covering the interior panels, creating a refined and comfortable ambiance.
- 12.3-inch Head Unit: The infotainment system, powered by Mazda Connect, is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Premium Bose Audio: A 12-speaker system ensures an immersive audio experience for all passengers.
- Second-Row Captain Seats: Designed to cater to executives, these seats provide a first-class experience with enhanced comfort and exclusivity.
Performance and Driving Dynamics
The Mazda CX-80 is larger than the CX-60, boasting dimensions of 4,990mm (L) x 1,890mm (W) x 1,713mm (H) with a wheelbase of 3,120mm. This increased size guarantees spaciousness for all passengers.
Under the hood, the CX-80 is powered by a 2.5L 4-cylinder e-Skyactiv PHEV engine, delivering 191 PS and 261 Nm of torque. Additionally, the electric motor contributes 175 PS and 270 Nm, bringing the combined output to 327 PS and 500 Nm of torque. Power is distributed to all four wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission with AWD capability.
The 17.8 kWh lithium-ion battery enables a full-electric driving range of 60 km (WLTP), making it an eco-friendly choice for city commutes.
